Versant Power prepares for strong winds and rain overnight

Release Date:  11-12-2021

Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine -- Versant Power is preparing for impacts of a storm expected to bring rain and high winds to most of the State Friday evening into Saturday morning. We expect the highest winds to be along the coast, possibly up to 60 mph, and 40mph gusts are also possible in northern Maine.

Versant Power urges customers to prepare for the possibility of difficult travel conditions and power outages.

High winds can bring down trees and tree limbs onto roads and power lines, and it is never safe to touch a downed line or a tree in contact with a downed line. It is also very dangerous to drive over a power line. Always assume that a power line is energized.

"We are working to ensure we have field crews positioned to address public safety issues, begin assessing any damage, and make repairs if winds and falling trees cause damage to the electrical system," said Steve Sloan, storm manager for Versant Power. "We ask that you give crews plenty of space to do their work safely, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic."

You can prepare by:

-Ensuring you have a supply of fresh water.

-Stocking up on easy-to-make nonperishable food items.

-Charging your cellphone and other electronic devices.

-Preparing flashlights and a battery-operated radio in case you must shelter in place until it is safe to travel.

-If you must travel, be watchful for flooding or pooling of water on roadways, as well as downed trees, branches or power lines.

-If you do lose power, keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed as long as possible to preserve your food.

-If you have a generator, review the manufacturer's guidelines to ensure you use it safely.

In addition to crews in the field, Versant Power will have extra Customer Service Representatives and other support staff ready to help if your power goes out. You can fill out a Power Issue Report Form at versantpower.com or call our Customer Contact Center at 1-855-363-7211 or 207-973-2000. Customers can also report an outage directly from their Online Services account.

We will share any updates at versantpower.com and on Twitter @versantpower.
