Release Date: 09-29-2020Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — With potential for winds to reach or exceed 50 mph on Wednesday, Versant Power is asking customers to prepare with us for any impacts of a fall storm. “With drought conditions and trees still carrying their leaves, Versant Power is particularly concerned about the impact of strong winds,” said Janet Scully, storm manager for Versant Power. “We are working to ensure we have field crews positioned to address public safety issues, begin assessing any damage, and make repairs if winds and falling trees cause damage to the electrical system Wednesday.” Versant Power asks customers to make a plan for their family in case falling trees block roads or cause power outages. Stay away from downed lines and report them to local authorities and Versant Power. NEVER touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a downed power line, and never drive over one. Make sure you have a supply of fresh water, easy-to-make nonperishable food items, flashlights and a battery-operated radio in case you must shelter in place until it is safe to travel. Before the storm lands, it’s also a good idea to charge your cellphone. If you have a generator, review the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure you use it safely.
