Versant Power to install smart devices to improve reliability in the Deblois area

Washington County, ME – Starting in September, Versant Power will be replacing aging equipment with new smart devices called Compact Modular Reclosers (CMRs) along Route 193 in the Deblois and Beddington area. This area was selected and reviewed by Versant Power engineers because of frequent outages in recent years.
If a tree or branch falls on the line, the new devices will trip the line several times, opening and closing sections of the circuit. That’s why you might see flickering at your house and then see the power come back on. In many cases the fault will clear, restoring power automatically.
The new smart devices allow for a quicker response time than fuses, since there’s no need to wait for one of our line workers to come on-site and make repairs if they successfully remove the tree or branch. Service can be restored automatically, and the manual process is eliminated in many cases. As always, Versant Power crews are ready to respond if there is a big tree or if the limb is too large for the smart device to handle.
The new devices replace existing fuses and are better equipped to keep the power on if a tree or branch falls on a line. The existing fuses are also reaching the end of their useful life and the new reclosers will be a modern, more reliable solution for customers.
Work is expected to be completed in October. For more updates visit versantpower.com or follow us on social media at @versantpower
