Working Together to Keep Maine Moving

When you see road construction crews improving highways, bridges, and intersections across Maine, there’s often another team working behind the scenes to help make those projects possible: Versant Power.

Because electric infrastructure frequently shares the same roadside corridors as state highways, many Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) projects require utility poles, wires, and other equipment to be relocated before construction can move forward. Each year, Versant Power works alongside MaineDOT on approximately 20 to 25 construction projects throughout its service territory, with dozens more reviewed during the planning process.

"These projects are a great example of how utilities and transportation agencies work together to support Maine's infrastructure," said Gil Paquette, Manager of Transmission and Distribution at Versant Power. "When opportunities arise, we look for ways to upgrade our equipment as part of the work, helping improve reliability for our customers."

Recent and ongoing projects, including work along Hogan Road in Bangor and roadway improvements in Downeast Maine, have required coordination between the two organizations to relocate electric infrastructure while minimizing impacts to customers and travelers.

While motorists may notice the roadwork itself, they may not see the planning and coordination taking place behind the scenes. By working closely with MaineDOT, Versant Power helps ensure critical transportation improvements can move forward while maintaining safe, reliable electric service for the communities we serve.
